2022 Nissan Pathfinder Review, Specs, and Pricing Like many of today's three-row SUVs, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder aims to be a replacement for a minivan, but with a rugged appearance and a bit of towing and off-road capability. To that end, the Pathfinder receives a comprehensive redesign for the 2022 model year, which Nissan is hoping will put its three-row mid-size SUV in contention with segment leaders such as the Hyundai Palisade, the Kia Telluride, and the Toyota Highlander. A V-6 engine is paired to a nine-speed automatic; front-wheel drive is standard but buyers who plan to venture off-road will want the optional all-wheel drive system. The cabin features room for seven or eight passengers across three rows, and Nissan offers a host of standard driver-assistance and infotainment features—with even more advanced tech available as options. What's New for 2022? Completely new for 2022, the Pathfinder sheds the frumpy design of the 2020 model in favor of a rugged and modern look. Expect to see the new Pathfinder in Nissan dealerships in summer 2021. Get Pre-Approved Get Today's Specials Value Your Trade Pricing and Which One to Buy Nissan hasn't provided a comprehensive breakdown of each of the Pathfinder's trim levels and standard features yet, but based on the outgoing model's trim offerings it looks as though the mid-range SV will be the best value of the bunch. Stepping up from the base S should add heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, SiriusXM satellite radio, and adaptive cruise control with Nissan's ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving mode. An optional SV Premium package will also be offered, but Nissan hasn't yet said what will be included in that package or disclosed its price. We'll update this story with details once we learn more. Engine, Transmission, and Performance While the 2022 Pathfinder retains the 284-hp 3.5-liter V-6 from the previous generation model, it drops the continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT) in favor of a new nine-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard but all trims can be equipped with all-wheel drive. Upgrading to the all-wheel drive system also adds a set of seven drive modes, including off-road focused Sand and Mud/Rut modes. Maximum towing capacity is 6000 pounds. We haven't had a chance to test drive the new Pathfinder yet, but when we do we'll update this story with test results and driving impressions. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG The EPA hasn't released the 2022 Pathfinder's fuel economy estimates yet, nor has Nissan mentioned any projections. Given that the Pathfinder is powered by the same V-6 engine as in 2020, we aren't expecting much to change. When we get a chance to test drive the Pathfinder, we'll take it on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test and report our findings here. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo It's inside where the 2022 Pathfinder takes its biggest leap forward over the outgoing 2020 model. A far more modern and truck-like interior design replaces the dated styling of the last generation. The Pathfinder remains a three-row SUV but buyers can now choose to swap the standard second-row bench seat for captain's chairs a desirable feature in a family crossover. Upper trim levels come appropriately decked out with luxuries such as semi-aniline leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. Infotainment and Connectivity An 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard and runs the latest version of the NissanConnect software interface. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard and the former can be synced wirelessly on upper trims. A 12.3-inch digital gauge display, an on-board Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless smartphone charging pad, SiriusXM satellite radio, a head-up display, and an in-dash navigation system are all optional features. Nissan hasn't said what the Pathfinder's standard stereo will be yet—we're guessing a fairly basic six- or eight-speaker arrangement—but a 13-speaker Bose system will be available. Safety and Driver Assistance Features All Pathfinders come with a host of driver assistance features as standard, including automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic high-beam headlamps. A semi-autonomous driving mode that Nissan calls ProPilot Assist is standard on SV, SL, and Platinum trims. 2022 Nissan Frontier Review, Pricing, and Specs We've been waiting for a new Nissan Frontier for years, and our patience will finally pay off when the all-new 2022 Nissan Frontier model is unveiled either later this month or early in 2021. We've confirmed that the new powertrain fitted to the outgoing version will power the upcoming mid-sizer. Just recently, we saw a glimpse of a heavily camouflaged prototype undergoing manufacture testing. Now it's just a matter of time before Nissan officially pulls the cover off. The design changes outside are no secret given the latest reveal of the fully updated truck. It seems that hard workers get full LED headlights and reworked backlights with some LED elements. The back door will use the letter “Frontier” to appear and we can also assume there will be some changes in it. Although there isn't much information out just yet on the 2022 Nissan Frontier we've decided to show you the official release video from Nissan. We will update this page as more information becomes available on the 2022 Frontier truck. Pricing and Which One to Buy Nissan hasn't said how much the new Frontier will cost or what trim levels will be offered, so we can only speculate on its base price, which should be slightly more than the truck's current starting price of $27,885. Engine, Transmission, and Performance The next-gen Frontier will inherit Nissan's new naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V-6, which just debuted on the current model. The engine generates 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission and rear- or four-wheel drive. While the 2020 Frontier Pro-4X we tested with the new powertrain didn't show a marked improvement in performance over the engine-and-transmission it replaced, we'll have to wait until we have an opportunity to drive the new Frontier before we can evaluate its performance and driving manners. We expect the 2022 Nissan Frontier will utilize a new V6 engine capable of producing 300 horsepower to be piped to the wheel via a seven-speed automatic transmission. Frontier’s next generation won’t be entirely new, as it will still share the platform as well with the Navara currently on the market. Nissan also seems to be refreshing the F-Alpha platform. Get Pre-Approved Get Today's Specials Value Your Trade Towing and Payload Capacity Since the current-generation Frontier has a max towing capacity of 6720 pounds and a max payload rating of 1450 pounds, we expect the forthcoming version to meet or exceed those figures. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG Neither the EPA nor Nissan have announced fuel-economy estimates for the 2022 Frontier. Since we know it'll have the same V-6 powertrain that motivates the current generation, there's a good chance that the new one has similar government rating. That suggests it'll earn up to 18 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. We'll have to wait for the official figures to be released and for our chance to test the new Frontier on our 75-mph highway route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, before we can evaluate its real-world mpg. What's for sure is that its design and material quality can only be an improvement over the outdated and plastic-laden cabin that the current generation hosts. The list of available features is expected to expand, too, since you can't even get a heated steering wheel on the current version. Based on spy photos, we do know that the next Frontier will continue to be offered with an extended cab. A crew-cab model is also virtually a lock considering it's typically the most popular pickup-truck configuration. Both body styles suggest that a short and long cargo bed should also be on the roster. We expect frontier cabins to take a big leap. Basically, the interior of the Nissan Frontier 2022 takes the base from the previous generation, so there will be no major difference between the two. Most only small details typical of Nissan are differentiating. Nissan Frontier 2022 uses the same dashboard layout as the previous generation, this is not a bad thing because the driver-oriented layout used increases Nissan’s typical driving impression. Get Pre-Approved Get Today's Specials Value Your Trade Infotainment and Connectivity In order for the Frontier to challenge the rest of its mid-size rivals on the infotainment front, it's going to need to offer a larger touchscreen and more standard features than the current generation. We expect the screen to measure at least 8.0 inches and the system to be available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We wouldn't be surprised if a more powerful stereo, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless charging were offered, too. After all, all of these features can be found on the full-size Nissan Titan. Safety and Driver-Assistance Features While the current-generation Frontier is totally devoid of driver-assistance technology, we expect Nissan to address that on the new truck.
