2022 Nissan Frontier Review, Pricing, and Specs

We've been waiting for a new Nissan Frontier for years, and our patience will finally pay off when the all-new 2022 Nissan Frontier model is unveiled either later this month or early in 2021. We've confirmed that the new powertrain fitted to the outgoing version will power the upcoming mid-sizer. Just recently, we saw a glimpse of a heavily camouflaged prototype undergoing manufacture testing. Now it's just a matter of time before Nissan officially pulls the cover off. In the meantime, you can save huge right now by picking up the 2020 Nissan Frontier from Wallace Nissan of Stuart, FL your local Nissan dealer.

What's New for 2022?

The design changes outside are no secret given the latest reveal of the fully updated truck. It seems that hard workers get full LED headlights and reworked backlights with some LED elements. The back door will use the letter “Frontier” to appear and we can also assume there will be some changes in it. Although there isn't much information out just yet on the 2022 Nissan Frontier we've decided to show you the official release video from Nissan. We will update this page as more information becomes available on the 2022 Frontier truck.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Nissan hasn't said how much the new Frontier will cost or what trim levels will be offered, so we can only speculate on its base price, which should be slightly more than the truck's current starting price of $27,885.

2022 Nissan Frontier Engine Specifications

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The next-gen Frontier will inherit Nissan's new naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V-6, which just debuted on the current model. The engine generates 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission and rear- or four-wheel drive. While the 2020 Frontier Pro-4X we tested with the new powertrain didn't show a marked improvement in performance over the engine-and-transmission it replaced, we'll have to wait until we have an opportunity to drive the new Frontier before we can evaluate its performance and driving manners.

We expect the 2022 Nissan Frontier will utilize a new V6 engine capable of producing 300 horsepower to be piped to the wheel via a seven-speed automatic transmission. Frontier’s next generation won’t be entirely new, as it will still share the platform as well with the Navara currently on the market. Nissan also seems to be refreshing the F-Alpha platform.

Towing and Payload Capacity

Since the current-generation Frontier has a max towing capacity of 6720 pounds and a max payload rating of 1450 pounds, we expect the forthcoming version to meet or exceed those figures.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Neither the EPA nor Nissan have announced fuel-economy estimates for the 2022 Frontier. Since we know it'll have the same V-6 powertrain that motivates the current generation, there's a good chance that the new one has similar government rating. That suggests it'll earn up to 18 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. We'll have to wait for the official figures to be released and for our chance to test the new Frontier on our 75-mph highway route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, before we can evaluate its real-world mpg. For more information about the Frontier's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

2022 Nissan Frontier Infotainment & Connectivity

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

There's not much we know about the interior of the forthcoming Frontier. What's for sure is that its design and material quality can only be an improvement over the outdated and plastic-laden cabin that the current generation hosts. The list of available features is expected to expand, too, since you can't even get a heated steering wheel on the current version. Based on spy photos, we do know that the next Frontier will continue to be offered with an extended cab. A crew-cab model is also virtually a lock considering it's typically the most popular pickup-truck configuration. Both body styles suggest that a short and long cargo bed should also be on the roster.

We expect frontier cabins to take a big leap. Basically, the interior of the Nissan Frontier 2022 takes the base from the previous generation, so there will be no major difference between the two. Most only small details typical of Nissan are differentiating. Nissan Frontier 2022 uses the same dashboard layout as the previous generation, this is not a bad thing because the driver-oriented layout used increases Nissan’s typical driving impression.

Infotainment and Connectivity

In order for the Frontier to challenge the rest of its mid-size rivals on the infotainment front, it's going to need to offer a larger touchscreen and more standard features than the current generation. We expect the screen to measure at least 8.0 inches and the system to be available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We wouldn't be surprised if a more powerful stereo, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless charging were offered, too. After all, all of these features can be found on the full-size Nissan Titan.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

While the current-generation Frontier is totally devoid of driver-assistance technology, we expect Nissan to address that on the new truck. For more information about the Frontier's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features will likely include:

  •  Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
  •  Available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
  •  Available adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Nissan offers competitive limited and powertrain warranties compared with other mid-size pickup trucks. However, almost every competitor—apart from the Honda Ridgeline—also includes some type of complimentary scheduled maintenance.

  •  Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
  •  Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
  •  No complimentary scheduled maintenance

2025 Nissan Altima

Recommended Oil Type For The Nissan Altima

When it comes to maintaining the health and longevity of your Nissan Altima, one of the most essential tasks is ensuring you use the correct oil type. The right engine oil keeps your engine running smoothly, improves fuel efficiency, and reduces the risk of costly repairs. If you're in Stuart, FL, and looking for trusted advice on the recommended oil type for your Nissan Altima, Wallace Nissan is here to help. more What Type of Oil Does a Nissan Altima Use? The recommended oil type for most modern Nissan Altima models is SAE 0W-20 full synthetic oil. This type of oil is specially designed to provide optimal performance, especially in extreme temperatures, and to improve fuel economy. However, older Nissan Altima models may require a different oil type, such as SAE 5W-30. Always check your owner's manual or consult with the certified service technicians at Wallace Nissan in Stuart, FL, for the most accurate information for your specific model and year. Why Is Full Synthetic Oil Recommended for the Nissan Altima? Full synthetic oil offers several advantages over conventional and synthetic blend oils, including: Better Engine Protection: Full synthetic oil reduces engine wear and tear, especially during start-up. Improved Fuel Economy: By reducing engine friction, synthetic oil can help boost fuel efficiency. Enhanced High-Temperature Performance: It withstands high temperatures better, which is crucial for Florida's warm climate. Reduced Engine Deposits: Synthetic oil is less likely to form sludge, keeping your engine cleaner. Longer Oil Change Intervals: Full synthetic oil lasts longer between oil changes compared to conventional oil, saving you time and money. How Often Should You Change the Oil in Your Nissan Altima? The frequency of oil changes depends on several factors, including your driving habits, climate, and the type of oil used. For most Nissan Altima models using SAE 0W-20 full synthetic oil, Nissan recommends changing the oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first. If you frequently drive in stop-and-go traffic or harsh conditions, you may need to change it more often. If you're unsure about the appropriate oil change interval for your specific model, visit the Wallace Nissan service center in Stuart, FL. Our expert technicians can provide personalized recommendations based on your driving habits and your Nissan Altima’s needs. Can You Use Conventional Oil in a Nissan Altima? While it’s technically possible to use conventional oil in a Nissan Altima, it's not recommended. Nissan specifically recommends full synthetic oil for most Altima models because of its superior performance, especially in extreme conditions. Using conventional oil may result in reduced engine efficiency, increased wear and tear, and shorter oil change intervals. How to Check Your Nissan Altima's Oil Level Checking your oil level regularly can prevent engine damage and ensure optimal performance. Follow these simple steps to check your Nissan Altima's oil: Park on a Level Surface: Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the engine is cool. Pop the Hood: Pull the hood release lever inside the vehicle and prop the hood open. Locate the Dipstick: Find the oil dipstick, which typically has a yellow or orange handle. Pull Out the Dipstick: Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean with a cloth, then reinsert it fully. Check the Oil Level: Pull the dipstick out again and check where the oil level is relative to the markings. If the oil is low, add the recommended oil type (usually SAE 0W-20) and recheck the level. Signs You May Need an Oil Change Sometimes, your Altima will give you signs that an oil change is overdue. Look for these indicators: Dashboard Oil Light: If this light comes on, it’s time to check your oil level or schedule an oil change. Excessive Engine Noise: Louder engine sounds may signal that the oil is no longer properly lubricating engine components. Dark or Dirty Oil: Fresh oil is amber in color. If it’s dark or gritty, it’s time for a change. Exhaust Smoke: If you notice blue smoke coming from the exhaust, there could be an oil-related issue. If you spot any of these warning signs, schedule an oil change at Wallace Nissan in Stuart, FL, as soon as possible. Why Choose Wallace Nissan in Stuart, FL for Your Oil Change?
